How to use the Night Read
A two-minute guide. The Night Read tells you how much the market is likely to move today, not which way.
1. Read the label
QUIET Overnight activity was in the lowest fifth of nights. Big-move days are rare after nights like this, about 7% in three years of testing.
NORMAL Nothing unusual. About the usual 18% of days are big-move days.
BUSY Overnight activity was in the highest fifth. About 37% of days that followed were big-move days.
2. Check the session clock
The clock shows the scheduled US releases and when the cash session opens, in New York time. Big moves have most often started between 07:00 and 10:30.
3. Look at the score
Every evening we score the call against what the market did. The Scorecard shows every call, hit or miss, and whether BUSY days really moved more than QUIET days.
What it isn't
It doesn't say whether the market will rise or fall, and it isn't a recommendation to buy or sell. It's context for your own plan. The Method page has the full definition and the tests.
